When should a couple seek help for not conceiving?

Doctors generally advise couples under 35 to see a specialist if pregnancy has not happened after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse, and women aged 35 or older after 6 months.

Seek help sooner for irregular or absent periods, known conditions such as PCOS or endometriosis, a history of pelvic infection or surgery, or known sperm problems. Fertility depends on both partners, so tests for both are usual.
